TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CURATORS

This post is (also) available in: NederlandsFrançais

We realize that every organization is different and operates differently…
The tips below for practical curation should therefore be viewed as a blueprint rather than a fixed rule.

Tips:

  • Create as many boards as possible: a board acts as a permanent query applied to every incoming article. As a curator, you can apply highly granular filters based on source and type to quickly retrieve the articles relevant to you. For example, you could create a board for a specific person or theme (similar to your current GoPress alert)
  • Assign one or more labels to each board. Labels are tags attached to articles. You can use them to easily create a live feed or to quickly populate categories within a newsletter (press review). Within a board, you can opt for “auto-labeling” so that every incoming article automatically receives that label, or you can assign labels manually throughout the platform (via search, the kiosk, etc.). For items that don’t fit neatly into a specific board, a general label (e.g., “temporary”) serves as an alternative.
  • If you want to provide the end user with a constant stream of news (print, online, multimedia, social media, etc.), create a live feed. You can choose to send each live feed to a single person, multiple people, or a contact list.
  • If you want to inform the end user at set times, create a newsletter. Create a solid template once, specify when it needs to be ready, and define which labeled articles (automatically or otherwise) should appear in which categories. This allows you to fully automate the preparation of up to 80% of your newsletter. As with live feeds, you can easily specify the recipients.
  • When publishing the newsletter, you can choose whether or not the recipient receives an email notification; we are continuously working to improve both the newsletter’s readability and its features. For instance, you can highlight specific articles, add links via an HTML component, format text in bold, easily add comments, and more.
  • If you are on vacation, you can share boards, live feeds, labels, and newsletters with fellow curators, ensuring that operations continue seamlessly.
  • Everything contained in a board or label can easily be incorporated into an analysis. In the near future, you will also be able to easily include custom-generated charts in newsletters, live feeds, and so on.
