Getting started

This post is (also) available in: NederlandsFrançais

Once you have logged into BelgaGov, you will see a number of boxes. These boxes are called Belga Services, otherwise known as content types.

Content types

Depending on your contract, these are the content types available:

  • Now
  • Pictures
  • Agenda
  • Today in History
  • Multimedia
  • Agencies
  • Press Releases

The Mosaic

The BelgaGov home page will show you a tile mosaic with the available Belga Services for you. Depending on your contract, these may vary.

The tiles get live updates. Click on a tile or item to open the service you wish to consult.

The menu

Preferences

You can personalise your BelgaGov by clicking on your user name in the upper right corner of the screen.

Click on EDIT YOUR PROFILE to change your personal details and/or your password.

Furthermore, you can change the color scheme of BelgaGov (dark or bright) as you prefer by choosing Dark or Bright.

Your NOW feed can be shown with or without pictures. Use the menu options ‘Title only’ or ‘Fully enriched’ to apply this preference to your layout.

Log out

You can find the “Log out” button by clicking on your username in the upper right corner.

Navigating between services

There are two different ways of navigating through BelgaGov.

When you click on the BelgaGov logo, you will return to the Mosaic page.

The second option is to click on the name of a Belga Service while in Box mode. You will see a drop-down menu where you can choose another content type to be shown in this box.

Organising your boxes

You can organise your Boxes layout the way you want. You can even show the same service in multiple boxes at the same time, allowing to concentrate on specific filtered streams.

Your selection will be saved, so the next time you log in you will find the same configuration.

Basic navigation

The list box

All of the boxes have a similar and easy way of navigation. When you click on one of the services, the box will open and provide you a list of information or items. In these boxes you can scroll up and down to browse the list of content.

If you reach the ‘bottom’ of the box, the list will automatically add more information, generally ‘older’ as news feed work chronologically. You can scroll down in most of our feeds till you reach the ‘one week’ timeframe.

If you want to read older articles, you can do so by using the search.

Click on a title to open the detail view of this item. It will be opened on the opposite side of the box you were consulting. If there are related articles attached to this article, they will appear when you hover your mouse over the ‘related article’ link in the list view. To read the content, click on it.

The detail

Every detail screen works in the same way. Just like the list view, you can scroll up and down if all the content does not fit your screen.

Depending on the type of service, you have the action buttons available: DOWNLOAD, LINK, PRINT or EMAIL.

Generate a permalink (URL) to 1 article or item by clicking on LINK in the detail screen. This link can be used by anyone else who has access to BelgaGov.

Use your screen efficiently

You can organise your screen the way you like; you can resize the browser pane to the dimension you want. BelgaGov will follow your browser dimensions.

This will allow you to follow our news feed in one browser window while keeping enough free space for other windows and activities.

Our journalists: get to know them

No more anonymous editors. BelgaGov allows you to get in touch with our journalists. You can contact them if you have a question or suggestion regarding an article.

You can see the contact details when you hover your mouse over the name of an author.

Similarly, you will notice that many services have forms to get in touch. If you have any questions, call us, mail us or fill in the form.
